The Mercury Marine serial number 0B308972 refers to a 60 horsepower, three-cylinder outboard motor manufactured in 1988. The motor's model number is 1060312BD, and its catalog number is 16404. Continue Reading. Information and availability for your Mercury Outboard. You can find the engine serial number on the starboard side of the engine on what’s called the “transom bracket”. The number will start with a 0 or 1, then a letter (eg. A, C, D, T) then 6 numbers. An example is 0G465723. On the transom bracket, you will see a small plate that’s been riv-eted on to the bracket. - Mercury Outboards The serial number tag is located on the SWIVEL BRACKET (port or starboard); or, check the INSTRUCTION PLATE, located between the thumb screws above the steering tube.
- Every Mercury outboard has a serial number label located on the transom bracket area of the engine. The latest serial number labels display a 2-digit number in a box at the lower right portion of the label. These digits coincide with the last two digits of the year in which the outboard was manufactured.
- The serial number format is the same. Japanese Mariner motors have a totally different serial number scheme, e.g. '6A3-S-123456 ' We currently do not have those here, but are largely useless. These motors do not have any consistent year-to-serial scheme. Mercury ceased publishing this information after the 1996 model year.
For Mercury outboards, the serial number label is located on the transom bracket.
